Our Canadian success story

Conceived from a passion for all things new and revolutionary, Winegate was born in 2006. The following year brought the arrival of the WineStation: the state-of-the-art intelligent dispensing system by Napa Technology. Recognizing its superiority over similar systems and its long term potential and benefit to our clients, the obvious choice was to make it our flagship product. Since that time, we have enjoyed the privilege and honour of partnering and collaborating closely with Napa’s distinguished team of high-tech veterans from Silicon Valley.

In 2008, the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ, Quebec’s provincial liquor board), one of the largest and most innovative liquor retail organizations in the world, set the wheels in motion. After piloting the “tasting station” concept with earlier systems, the SAQ launched a rollout plan that called for the equipping of about 100 “Selection” and “Signature” stores with WineStations. Very well received by customers, store personnel, head office staff and suppliers alike, the rollout continues to expand and evolve to this day.

Other Canadian liquor boards followed suit. The Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC) deployed WineStations in virtually all its corporate locations. They were soon followed by Alcool NB Liquor (ANBL), PEI Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC), the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC), Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries’ Liquor Marts (MBLL), and the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch’s BC Liquor Stores (LDB).

As news of our customers’ experiences and successes made their way from east to west, other liquor boards and private retailers across Canada jumped on board. Step inside a liquor store in Canada today, and if you don’t see our system there yet . . . chances are you will soon!
